Asian chicken wraps is one of my all-time favorite meals. The crunch from the carrots, water chestnuts, and fresh lettuce pair perfectly with the bright flavors of garlic, ginger, and ground chicken.
While it’s lovely when you have the time to spend an hour cooking dinner for your family, sometimes you just need something fast and easy that everyone will enjoy. For this recipe, all you need is ground chicken, some spices and hoisin sauce, and chopped vegetables.
Put some rice in a pot while you cook the chicken, and you’ll have dinner ready in a flash.
In addition to tasting amazing, these wraps are also pretty healthy. While hoisin sauce can have lots of sugar and sodium, making the filling at home allows you to control how much of those substances go into your meal. Served with a side of rice and vegetables, these wraps make a balanced and nourishing meal.
You can also easily customize this recipe to adjust to allergies or other dietary needs. Naturally, these are dairy-free, and if you use a hoisin sauce without wheat products, you can make them gluten-free as well. Use tofu crumbles or cauliflower in place of the chicken to make them vegetarian.

What lettuce is best for wraps?
You want lettuce with sturdy leaves that can hold the filling without falling apart. Romaine and Bibb varieties seem to work best, but feel free to try your favorite variety instead.
What vegetables go with asian chicken wraps?
While I recommend using shredded carrots and water chestnuts, you can use almost any other vegetable you have on hand. Bell peppers, broccoli, onions, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and cabbage all pair well with these chicken wraps.
Tips for making asian chicken wraps:
- Coconut aminos is a great flavoring to use to give your chicken wraps the flavor of soy sauce without all the sodium. However, if you don’t have coconut aminos on hand, feel free to use soy sauce instead.
- If you have fresh ginger, you can certainly use that instead of ground ginger. Either will turn out fine, although you may want to adjust the amount of ginger to your taste.
- To make this meal vegetarian, you could use tofu crumbles in place of the ground chicken. If you don’t like tofu, you could also use cauliflower or chickpeas.
- To make these wraps gluten-free, just make sure to use gluten-free hoisin sauce. It really depends on the brand whether the hoisin sauce contains any wheat, so check the ingredients list before you use it.
- While this recipe only takes 20 minutes to make, you can freeze this chicken filling to reheat for an easy weeknight dinner. Store in an air-tight container or ziplock bag in the freezer for up to 3 months. Put it in the refrigerator to thaw in the morning, then heat it up for dinner in the evening.

1/4 cup hoisin sauce
2 tbsp coconut aminos
3 clove garlic
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1 8oz can water chestnuts
Lettuce leaves for serving
How to make asian chicken lettuce wraps:
Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the ground chicken. Cook for 5-8 minutes until the chicken is no longer pink.
While the chicken cooks, peel and mince the garlic. Next add it to the ground chicken in the skillet. Stir in the hoisin sauce, coconut aminos, and ground ginger. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the garlic and ginger are fragrant.
In the mean time, cut the water chestnuts in half and then add them to the ground chicken. Mix in the shredded carrots and cook them until heated through.
This will take about 5 minutes. Fill your lettuce leaves with the chicken mixture and enjoy. You can serve these wraps with rice, noodles, or even fresh sourdough naan, whatever you prefer!
